In 2017, Emirates Waste to Energy Company was launched as a joint venture by two of the UAE’s sustainability icons: Bee’ah, the Middle East’s leading and award-winning environmental management company, and Masdar, a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company and a pioneer in sustainable urban development.
Emirates Waste to Energy Company aims to set up waste-to-energy projects across the UAE and MENA region, leading the journey towards responsible energy stewardship while diverting waste from landfills. Our aspirations include enabling the Sharjah to be the first zero waste-to-landfill city in the region by 2021.
The Future Ahead for Waste-To-Energy
Emirates Waste to Energy’s first project, the Sharjah Waste to Energy facility, will be operational by 2021, and will be a model of success to showcase the potential of such solutions for other cities across the UAE and Middle East.
Currently, we are exploring collaboration opportunities with several international organizations and local entities such as the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
