Sharjah, UAE, 04 September 2019:  Bee’ah, the Middle East’s pioneer in sustainable quality of life, will showcase its innovations in clean energy and pioneering waste-to-energy technologies at the 24th World Energy Congress next month, which is being held in the UAE for the first time. The landmark event will take place from the 9th to the 12th of September 2019, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

Two of Bee’ah’s joint venture entities will be represented at the event. ION, which was launched as the region’s first commercial sustainable transport company through a partnership with Crescent Enterprises, is the official sustainable transport partner for the event. Aimed at driving a fully green fleet management enterprise in the UAE and the MENA region, through a ‘zero emission transport system’, ION will also demonstrate Bee’ah’s commitment to zero-emission transport solutions at its booth at the event.

Emirates Waste to Energy Company (EWTE), Bee’ah’s joint venture with Masdar, will present its revolutionary projects at the Bee’ah stand and introduce visitors to its iconic project and the UAE’s first waste-to-energy plant, the Sharjah Waste to Energy Facility.  Upon completion in 2020, the 30 MW facility will process more than 37.5 tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) per hour to generate electricity sustainably; and divert more than 300,000 tonnes of municipal waste away from landfills every year. Operating at full capacity, it will contribute significantly to reaching the UAE’s target of diverting 75 percent of its solid waste from landfills by 2021, as well as Sharjah’s zero-waste-to-landfill goal.

One of the key themes of this year’s World Energy Congress, featuring leading international officials, thought leaders and environmental experts, will be “Energising the Circular Economy”. HE Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO of Bee’ah, will participate in a panel discussion on this subject on the opening day of the conference where he is expected to share the pioneering work that Bee’ah has successfully undertaken in this field, through its own operation and via joint ventures such as ION and Emirates Waste to Energy Company.

Commenting on the participation of Emirates Waste to Energy Company, HE Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO of Bee’ah, said, “We are honoured to participate in the 24th World Energy Congress, to discuss with global industry leaders how we facilitate the development of a more sustainable future. Given global economic and environmental challenges, we believe that there is an urgent requirement to embrace and drive the transition to a ‘Circular Economy’. From the beginning of our journey in 2007, Bee’ah adopted a holistic approach to sustainability, and we now have operations spanning sectors such as waste, water, air, technology, transport and energy. We are building the UAE’s first waste-to-energy plant, in partnership with Masdar. And along with the facility, we are exploring new energy technologies to support the UAE Vision 2021 target of meeting 27 percent of energy requirements from clean sources. We look forward to sharing our insights, and learning from others about how we can make the move to a more energy-efficient future that benefits everyone.

Speaking of ION’s role as official sustainable transport partner, Al Huraimel commented, “As a pioneer for future sustainability, we have to innovate across all industries, including transportation. Through our partnership with Crescent Enterprises, we are proud to have developed a green mobility solution that is encouraging sustainable travel alternatives and behavioural changes among commuters. ION’s presence at WEC affirms that the transportation sector in the UAE is evolving, complementing the nation’s transition to a sustainable economy.”

The World Energy Congress is the world’s largest, longest-running and most influential energy gathering, which takes place every three years in select international cities. This edition will mark the first time the Congress has been hosted in a Middle Eastern city, and by an OPEC member country, in the event’s 94-year history.

Unique in its coverage of the entire energy spectrum from oil and gas to renewables and nuclear, as well as power, the World Energy Congress provides a forum for the industry’s largest and most diverse conversation. Bee’ah will be joining an expected 2,500 exhibitors at this edition of the event, which is also expected to receive 15,000 attendees, including an estimated 4,000 delegates and 7,000 trade visitors.

Visitors can find the Emirates Waste to Energy Company at Stand 110 in Hall 8, and ION at Stand 126 in Hall 9, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
